About this sight
The Belvedere in the 3rd district is a Baroque palace ensemble commissioned by Prince Eugene of Savoy and designed by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. The Lower Belvedere was built 1712 to 1716, the Upper Belvedere 1717 to 1723. The complex now houses the Austrian Gallery Belvedere, focused on Viennese Modernism and Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the present. The collection is best known for Klimt's „The Kiss" (1908/09) and „Judith I". A Baroque garden links the Upper and Lower Belvedere.
