On price the rule is simple: inside the Ring you pay for the location, outside it you pay for the room. If you are flexible, booking one district further out and accepting ten minutes of public transport saves a noticeable amount. How do you get from Vienna Airport into the city?
The CAT City Airport Train runs non-stop to Wien Mitte in the 3rd district; the S7 suburban train covers the same route with stops and costs considerably less. Both end at hubs with metro connections.
When is Vienna cheapest?
In high summer, when many Viennese are away themselves, and in late winter after the ball season ends. It gets expensive around New Year, during Advent and during major trade fairs and congresses.
Do you need a car in Vienna?
No, quite the opposite. The transit network covers the whole city, and almost the entire inner area is a paid short-stay parking zone. Hotels with their own garage usually charge a daily rate. Arriving without a car saves both money and stress.
