About this sight

The Kahlenberg is a 484-metre hill in the Vienna Woods on the northern edge of the city, in the 19th district of Döbling. From the plateau the view spans Vienna, the Danube and the Marchfeld plain. On the summit stand St. Joseph's Church, a transmission tower and a hotel. Historically the hill is tied to the Battle of Kahlenberg in September 1683, which ended the second Ottoman siege of Vienna. Marked paths lead down through the Vienna Woods and vineyards to Grinzing and Nußdorf, both known for their Heuriger wine taverns.
