Villa Kumpf

Turn-of-the-century villa in Grinzing - Heuriger atmosphere on the doorstep.

About the hotel

A genuine Viennese villa on the edge of Grinzing - vineyards, Heurige, Vienna Woods. The city doesn't feel like a city out here. Rooms have old-building character, high ceilings, stucco. About 30 minutes by bus and subway to Stephansdom. Worth it if you prefer Heurige evenings to the Karlsplatz crowd.

Location: 19th district (Döbling). Grinzing, Kahlenberg, wine taverns. Wine, views, old Vienna up close.

Location & getting there

The Villa Kumpf is in Döbling on the edge of Grinzing, Vienna's most famous wine-tavern village - set between vineyards and the Vienna Woods, far from the bustle of the centre. The surroundings feel more like a village than a big city: Heurige, walking paths, the Kahlenberg with its view over Vienna. Getting into the centre takes about 30 minutes - by bus to the U4 at Heiligenstadt and onwards from there. Allow a little extra time from the airport accordingly; the usual route runs via Wien Mitte. Parking is usually possible on the property itself - best to ask the house directly.

Who is it for?

From around 145 euros a night you get period charm with high ceilings and stucco - a fair price for a genuine turn-of-the-century villa in Vienna's four-star bracket. Ideal for returning visitors, slow travellers and couples who would rather spend the evening at a Heuriger than at Karlsplatz, and for anyone who values peace and greenery over proximity to the centre. First-timers with a packed sightseeing schedule should factor in the daily 30-minute ride - if maximum efficiency is the goal, staying further in makes more sense.
