About this sight

The Vienna State Opera on the Opernring opened in 1869 as the Imperial Court Opera. Architects August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll designed it in Neo-Renaissance style. The building was heavily damaged by bombing in March 1945 and reopened in 1955 with „Fidelio". The Staatsoper stages around 350 performances per season, making it one of the largest repertoire houses in the world. The Vienna Opera Ball is held once a year in February. Standing-room tickets are sold cheaply on the evening of each performance.
