DO & CO Hotel Vienna
In the Haas-Haus on Stephansplatz - onyx lobby, rooftop restaurant, cathedral views.
About the hotel
Architecturally the most exciting spot in the centre: Hans Hollein's Haas-Haus opposite Stephansdom. Rooms tend to be compact, but the 7th-floor restaurant and Onyx Bar are the real draw. Food comes from the DO & CO catering empire, level accordingly high. Guests: foodies, architecture fans, weekend visitors with budget.
Location: 1st district (Innere Stadt). The first district - UNESCO World Heritage, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Hofburg, Albertina. Stay here for postcard Vienna.
Location & getting there
You cannot stay more centrally than Stephansplatz: the DO & CO occupies the Haas-Haus directly opposite St. Stephen's Cathedral, in the very heart of the first district. The Stephansplatz station with the U1 and U3 sits directly beneath the building - you practically board the subway inside the hotel. Graben, Kärntner Straße and the Hofburg start at the door, and the entire pedestrian zone of the old town is your front garden. From the airport, take the CAT or S7 to Wien Mitte, then the U3 brings you to Stephansplatz in a few minutes. For drivers there is a valet service for a fee.
Who is it for?
From around 420 euros a night, the DO & CO clearly belongs to Vienna's luxury segment, though it positions itself far more contemporary than the classic grand hotels. It is the right choice for foodies, architecture fans and couples treating themselves to a weekend with cathedral views and outstanding food. Families should know that the house is geared to couples and business guests: family rooms are limited and rooms tend to be compact. If you want lots of space or classic imperial splendour, you will be happier elsewhere.
