Altstadt Vienna
Designer rooms in Spittelberg - each by a different architect.
About the hotel
One of Vienna's most unusual hotels: each room designed by a different designer or architect - Matteo Thun, Polka, Lilli Hollein. Rooms are individual, sometimes experimental. Owner Otto E. Wiesenthal keeps his own art collection in the house. Located in Spittelberg, one of the prettiest quarters - little alleys, galleries, eateries. Not for travellers who want a standard hotel.
Location: 7th district (Neubau). MuseumsQuartier, Spittelberg, concept stores. The district of Vienna's creatives.
Location & getting there
Altstadt Vienna sits in Spittelberg, one of the city's prettiest quarters: Biedermeier lanes, small galleries, restaurants with pavement gardens - the seventh district at its most charming. The MuseumsQuartier is a few minutes on foot, and the Hofburg and the Ring are within walking distance too. With U2 Volkstheater and U3 Neubaugasse you have two subway stations close by, putting the whole city within quick reach. From the airport, take the CAT or S7 to Wien Mitte and change to the U3 towards Neubaugasse.
Who is it for?
Altstadt Vienna is for travellers who book a hotel as an experience: every room was created by a different designer or architect, topped off by the owner's art collection throughout the house. Design lovers, couples and returning guests who try a different room each visit are exactly the right crowd. From around 195 euros a night it sits in the upper boutique segment - an understandable price for this level of individuality. Worth knowing: the rooms are deliberately different, some experimental. If you expect reliable standard fittings and predictable rooms, a classic four-star chain hotel will serve you better.
