Das Tyrol sits at the start of Mariahilfer Straße, where Vienna's longest shopping street meets the MuseumsQuartier - the museums are just three minutes on foot. That puts you at one of the city's most convenient junctions: the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Hofburg and the historic centre are an easy walk, as are the restaurants of Neubau and Mariahilf. The sixth district is well served by subway and buses, so further-flung sights are no problem either. From the airport, take the CAT or S7 to Wien Mitte and continue by subway; drivers will find a public garage nearby.

Das Tyrol is made for art lovers and museum-goers: every room hangs with originals from the in-house collection, and the MuseumsQuartier is right outside the door. Couples and city travellers who prefer a personally run boutique hotel to a chain operation are also in the right place - many come back. From around 175 euros a night the hotel sits in the upper midfield of the Vienna market, which is reasonable for an owner-run four-star house in this location. If you expect a classic grand-hotel experience with ballroom atmosphere, or are watching every euro, look elsewhere.
